A piano is heavy, top-heavy and delicate at the same time. Moving one safely takes the right equipment, enough crew and experience. Unlimited Moving moves upright and grand pianos across Tampa Bay, either on their own or as part of a full home move. Call (813) 446-8389 or get a free quote.
Pianos we move
- Upright and spinet pianos
- Baby grand and grand pianos
- Digital pianos and organs
How we move a piano safely
- Assess the route. We check doorways, stairs, turns and the path to the truck at both homes.
- Protect the piano. The lid and keyboard are secured, and the piano is wrapped in thick moving pads.
- Use the right equipment. Uprights travel on a piano dolly. Grand pianos are moved on their side on a piano board after the legs and pedal lyre are removed.
- Secure it in the truck. The piano is strapped upright against the truck wall so it cannot shift.
- Set it up. At your new home we reattach legs and pedals and place it exactly where you want it.
Stairs and tight spaces
Pianos on second floors, in condos or in homes with tight turns need extra planning. Tell us about stairs, elevators and narrow doorways when you request a quote so we bring the right crew and equipment.
Piano moving tips
- Do not try to move a piano yourself. Most piano damage and moving injuries come from DIY moves.
- Plan a tuning. It is normal for a piano to need tuning after a move. Many owners wait a few weeks so it can adjust to the new room.
- Mind the Florida humidity. Place your piano away from exterior doors, windows and A/C vents to keep it stable.
